Attendance Policy
This announcement is about Excused Absence Application. In the Korean higher education system, attendance in classes is very important and counts towards the final grade for most courses, typically 20% of the final grade. Students who have an unauthorised absence rate of 33% or more for a particular class will automatically fail the class.
If you are absent from class due to a valid reason, you can apply for Excused Absence, which would mean that your final grade would not be impacted by that absence. Students can check their attendance information here.
Valid reasons include: funeral service for an immediate family member, hospitalization or quarantine under government direction, illness, one's own marriage, participation in major national events, participation in campus events (with prior approval). For each reason, there is a limit on the number of days that can be excused (see the form for more details).
If you are absent for one of the above reasons, you need to complete an Excused Absence Form and attach valid evidence of the absence. Excused Absence can only be accepted with valid evidence. The process you need to follow is:
- Print and complete the Excused Absence Form (below in PDF format along with a sample).
- Get the completed form signed/stamped by the International Administrative Center Registrar (INQUIRE@WSU.AC.KR) and by your department chair.
- Upload the completed and signed form along with valid evidence to the infosystem (instructions below).
Note: Forms should be submitted within 5 working days of your return after the absence.
Note: Email your department chair in advance to make an appointment to see them.
Note: Excused Absence is subject to approval and is not confirmed until approved.
If you have any questions, contact the International Administrative Center (INQUIRE@WSU.AC.KR).
